E! News turns 20. It's two decades on the air for the daily entertainment news magazine show that started September 1991.

You're reading it here first.

E! News on E! Entertainment (DStv 120) quietly marked its 20th anniversary.

The daily entertainment news magazine show which started out as E! News Daily turned 20 years old this past Thursday on 1 September 2011. The first episode ran on 1 September 1991.

Although South Africa didn't get the E! Entertainment channel until December 2004, South African viewers did get to see E! News Daily long before that and became familiar with the show.

When the free-to-air commercial broadcaster e.tv started in October 1998, it bought the show, as well as other filler content from E! Entertainment. Longtime e.tv viewers will remember E! News Daily anchors Jules Asner and Steve Kmetko bringing the Hollywood news from a then white and orange set and that gold fish swimming around in the capital letter E.

Two months ago I asked E! Entertainment whether the entertainment channel would be marking the 20th anniversary of the show with current anchors Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic with any kind of special, or special programming but was told no.

Two decades on television is an eternity in TV land to be on the air continuously, so happy 20th birthday anyway, E! News.
