BREAKING. SuperSport acquires the Premier Soccer League TV rights for R2 billion; will keep broadcasting PSL for the next 5 years.

SuperSport has acquired the new PSL television rights for R2 billion for the next 5 years starting from the 2012/2013 season.

SuperSport previously acquired the TV rights to the Premier Soccer League in 2007 for R1,6 billion. MultiChoice sees sports rights as a big driver of pay TV uptake in South Africa as well as in the rest of the continent.

''We have once again made a substantial investment in a product that is immensely popular and is skillfully and professionally managed and packaged,'' says Imtiaz Patel, group CEO of MultiChoice South Africa in a press release.
