Programming note: The Science of Lust and Fear reveal surprising secrets on Discovery Science in September.

Discovery Science (TopTV 302) has two interesting documentaries starting in September looking at the science behind fear as well as lust.

The Science of Fear premieres on Discovery Science on Wednesday 7 September at 15:40. Fear is a powerful animal emotion and the body's automatic response to a perceived threat. It guides instantaneous decision making. ''We think our conscious minds are in charge, but science reveals that fear trumps reason,'' says the show. Prof Liz Phelps studies fear, looks at how it works, what sets it off and how it can be erased. Erased?

The Science of Lust premieres on Discovery Science on Wednesday 14 September at 19:00. ''A pretty face, an attractive body and a lingering glance are sometimes all it takes to instigate lust,'' says the show. ''But how does that happen?'' The Science of Lust exposes the surprising secrets of lust and the scientific processes which goe on within the human body to generate this overpowering feeling. ''Lust influences a vast range of human behaviour'' says the show which shows - through a series of interesting scientific experiments not only how the lust factor works - but how its possible to control it.
