President Jacob Zuma has rubber-stamped and approved the cabinet reccomendation to appoint Dr Sethe Patricia Makhesha, John Sembie Danana, advocate Cawekazi Benedicta Mahlati and Lumko Caesario Mtimde as new members to the SABC board for a 4 year term.
The four officially replace Felleng Sekha, Barbara Masekela, David Niddrie and Makgatho Mello who resigned after acrimonious in-fighting with the SABC board chairperson dr Ben Ngubane. The new SABC board members who were appointed in terms of the Broadcasting Act of 1999 and whose appointment would come into effect from 3 June, will serve as SABC board members until 9 June, 2015.
"I wish them all the success in this important endeavour and I am certain that they are aware of the immense responsibility the nation has placed on them, to serve the country through our national broadcaster, the SABC," said president Jacob Zuma in a statement.
