BREAKING. M-Net's Idols presenter ProVerb ''shocked and devastated'' after he knocks over a woman now in hospital with severe head injuries.

A woman has been left with severe injuries after Idols presenter ProVerb (30) knocked her down early this morning in Paul Kruger Drive in Johannesburg and she has been rushed to hospital with severe head injuries.

The South African rapper whose real name is Tebogo Thekisho knocked the 37 year old Zimbabwean woman over as he drove home after finishing his early morning radio show which ended at 06:00. The woman was taken to the Leratong State Hospital in the West Rand.

''I am shocked and devastated that this has happened'' said ProVerb in a statement just released by M-Net. ''It was an accident.''

''This will not impact the show as the live broadcasts of Idols only begin at the end of July,'' says Ingrid Engelbrecht, Idols spokesperson. Episodes currently being broadcast and following the nationwide audition process on Sundays at 17:30 have been filmed two months ago. ''Our support is with ProVerb during this difficult time,'' says Pierre Cloete, M-Net channel head.

[The only thing that's seemingly quicker than ProVerb's latest hit is the instant tabloid attack by journalists who usually can't find their own stories and have gone into an instant feeding frenzy getting information of ProVerb's driving accident served on a plate. I can already see tomorrow's tawdry headlines and the pulpy blog posts: ''ProVerb's latest hit''. Maybe try to cover the actual TV show with the same sudden zeal as the frothy freaky accident stories that's lowbrow easy to report about  - Ed.]
