Programming note: History to reveal the real fate of Rome's Lost Legion in a gripping new documentary in May.
History is actually very cool especially when it tells a gripping tale, when its visual, when it fills you in on something that really happened in antiquity but that not a lot of people know about, and when it contains elements of adventure, with real heroic and some bad-ass characters.
Make a note now to watch the new Rome's Lost Legion documentary that History (DStv 254) just scheduled for Sunday, 29 May at 20:30. It's based on, and tells the real epic story that inspired the new Hollywood The Eagle. For nearly 2 000 years the disappearance of a legion of 5 000 Roman soldiers in northern Britain has been shrouded in mystery; its ultimate fate argued over by generations of historians. Now this documentary will reveal the loss of the Ninth Legion that was a truly catastrophic event. Three Roman generals and an estimated 20 000 troops died fighting hostile tribes - a legend that's finally proven as fact.
Other great programming on History during May include the new series Patton 360 starting on Wednesday, 11 May at 20:30 about George S. Patton, the American Army General famous for his outspokenness, uncompromising standards and aggressive combat strategy, but best known for his leadership while commanding armies during the Second World War.
True Story is back from Saturday, 7 May at 20:30 that reveals the real-life stuff that happened behind famous Hollywood films and this time the show goes behind The Exorcist, The Hunt For Red October, and Casino. A new season of Deadliest Ice Roads is also back from Monday, 11 May at 20:30 following those lunatic American and Canadian truck drivers crossing borders in trucks and driving on the most dangerous and treacherous roads all over the world.
