Discovery likes to recycle old quotes and attribute it to people who never said it because we're South African and wouldn't really know better.

It would seems as if Discovery Networks International running TV channels on both MultiChoice's DStv and On Digital Media's TopTV in South Africa thinks that South African viewers are clueless and stupid - willing to mindlessly recycling quotes and attributing it willy-nilly as needed for an uninformed audience because South Africa won't know any better.

On Saturday - 5 days ago already - I told you RIGHT HERE about the plans from the Discovery Channel (DStv 121) and Discovery Science (TopTV 302) to produce and broadcast a one hour special Anatomy of a Disaster about the events around the natural disaster unfolding in Japan.

Discovery Networks International just saw it fit to ''announce'' the already announced news for South Africa, saying everything exactly as TV with Thinus already reported days ago. The only difference? Swiping the quotes then attributed in a press release to a Discovery Networks exec in America and now making as if a Discovery exec overseeing the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region is saying it - all to make it look nice, new and relevant days later.

Then Clark Bunting, president and general manager of Discovery Channel said in a statement that Anatomy of a Disaster ''will depict a race against time, from the first wave to hit Sendai, to acts of incredible heroism still yet to occur."

Now suddenly - obviously being disingenuous and attributing words to someone who never really said it in the first place - Discovery Networks International is saying in a ''breaking news'' press release:
''Discovery Networks feels it is important to offer our South Africa viewers cutting edge current affairs programming specials like Anatomy of a Disaster. This special programme depicts the race against time, from the first wave hitting Sendai to the acts of incredible heroism that the people of Japan and the world at large is demonstrating,'' said Paul Welling, vice president head of channels Discovery Networks, CEEMEA.

At least the drop-in quote got updated regarding the ''incredible acts of heroism'' that started to happen. But how about maybe some cutting edge real quotes for South African viewers, Discovery?
