The SABC and the biggest labour unions within the South African public broadcaster have reached an agreement on how to proceed with the mammoth Turnaround Strategy the broadcaster has to implement.

In a statement the SABC says ''all parties committed themselves to ensuring that they play their part in making the Turnaround Strategy a success''. The agreement on the process comes after several meetings between SABC top brass and union leaders which included The Media Workers Association of South Africa (Mwasa), the Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) and the Communications Workers Union (CWU).

The SABC and trade union representatives met earlier today and agreed on the regularity of meetings between SABC top management and the unions regarding the progress and processes of the Turnaround Strategy, that information and the kind of information that the broadcaster will share with employees as the process continues as well as the guarantee that unions will first get the chance to give input on matters and activities that the SABC is looking at possibly changing through the Turnaround Strategy.

The SABC board will present its latest Turnaround Strategy to parliament sometime next month.
