Sony Pictures Television is happy with the performance of Sony Entertainment Television (DStv 113) as a TV channel in South Africa and the rest of the continent and is looking at expanding and building the channel with not just more TV shows but also different programming genres.
''Over the last few years Sony Entertainment Television's audience has grown by over 180%,'' says Eddie Nelson, senior vice president for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region of Sony Pictures Television. ''The most important thing is – and that I know for sure – is that MultiChoice, our partner, is very happy with it. That is probably the most important thing. Sony Entertainment Television is a good channel, the structure is well thought-through, great shows. I'm happy with it.''
''Where do I want it to go? I want it to keep growing and gain even more and more of an identity,'' he says. ''People now know what Sony Entertainment Television or SET is as a TV channel. Now, once they [viewers] have an understanding of what we deliver, we'll continue to work at bringing more shows, and better and better shows. The channel is well thought-through, it is positioned right, and we'll expand on that and expand on the various programming genres that's on there,'' says Eddie Nelson.
Besides drama shows like The Bridge and Leverage Sony Entertainment Television has the first-show territory rights for the popular reality show The Amazing Race of which the 16th season will premiere on Snday, 6 February at 19:45.
