BREAKING. Jimi Matthews, formerly the SABC's head of TV news is back at the embattled SABC as the new head of TV news.
The embattled SABC has appointed one of its former head of TV news execs Jimi Matthews as the new head of news, replacing the sacked head of TV news Amrit Manga.
Jimi Matthews was the SABC's head of TV news before he left to become head of news at e.tv and then left e.tv in 2007 to head up the 24 hour news channel that then pay TV licencee Telkom Media (Super 5 Media after being bought by Shenzhen Media SA) planned. Of a pay TV service by Telkom Media nor a news channel for this service came nothing, and now Jimi Matthews is back at the public broadcaster.
Jimi Matthews will answer directly to the SABC's head of news and current affairs, Phil Molefe. Mike Siluma has been appointed as the head of radio news. In a press release Phil Molefe - admitting that the SABC's news division has a credibility problem, says the SABC is ''committed to restore its credibility and to provide quality and compelling programming.''
