I can break the news that SABC1's reality show looking for a South African action hero will be back for a second season in 2011, with Class Act set to start in April.
Class Act, an advertiser-funded show (AFP), wasn't without its share of controversy last year and had to ditch a top 10 contestant. SABC1 is set to announce a second season of Class Act later this month.
As the public broadcaster's channel with the biggest TV audience, SABC1 is awash is third-rate reality programming and shrugging its responsibility of being a public broadcaster that's supposed to entertain but also educate. SABC1 is already set to do several reality shows for 2011 again. SABC1 is, and will be, producing very little quality local drama and sitcom fare in 2011 that would - unlike bland reality shows - actually be supporting production skills transfers and growing the local South African TV production industry.
