BREAKING. eNews Channel, SABC3 and BBC World News to cover the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate on April 29, 2011.

You're reading it here first.

Mark your calendars for Friday, April 29, 2011 for the wedding of the century when Britain's Prince William will be getting married to Kate Middleton in Westminster Abby that will be beamed to billions of viewers around the world and which South Africans will also be able to see.

With the breaking news of the date announcement just now, I've reached out to all of the South African broadcasters like SABC1, SABC2, SABC3, M-Net and the eNews Channel (DStv 403), as well as BBC World News (DStv 400 / TopTV 400) and Sky News (DStv 402) to hear whether, and who will be broadcasting the royal wedding or have plans for TV specials leading up to and on the wedding day.

The eNews Channel (DStv 403) is first to confirm that South African viewers will be able to see the royal wedding on April 29 2011 on the 24 hour South African news channel in its entirety.

''The eNews Channel will be covering the wedding of Prince William to Kate,'' the channel confirms. ''The details of the coverage are being discussed at the moment, but eNews will provide extensive coverage before, during and after the wedding,'' I'm told.

BBC World News (DStv 400 / TopTV 400) just told me that ''we will be covering the royal wedding'' but adds: ''it's far too early to detail any specific plans. This is something that will be decided over the coming months.''

SABC3's channel head Mathe Mosito-Okaba tells me that the SABC's only commercial TV channel are excited about the royal wedding. ''We have already started with the plans as SABC3. Closer to the time we will let you know how the broadcast will be executed.''
