BREAKING. The SABC is losing television market share; public broadcaster's TV market share drops to 42,2%.

The SABC's television market share is declining with the beleaguered South African public broadcaster that's continuing its downward slide and loss of eyeballs.

In the SABC's just released annual report for 2008/2009 the broadcaster admits that it's losing market share. Keep in mind that this market share erotion is before the advent of TopTV since May this year and even more aggressive new channels roll-outs and services by MultiChoice's DStv.

The SABC says in its annual report that its TV market share has declined in 2008/2009 with 4,8% from 47% to 42,2%. The SABC is also struggling to get its money from advertisers. The broadcaster says there was an underperformance on sales which it blames on the South African economy but also because advertisers are not paying. The SABC admits there's poor management of deals and advertising contracts leading to debtors who refuse to pay before these are resolved.
