BREAKING. e.tv responds to being awarded a DVB-H mobile television licence: ''We're very excited.''

After the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) finally completed the drawn-out process for mobile TV licenses in South Africa and awarded e.tv with a DVB-H mobile TV licence to start a mobile TV service, e.tv has responded.

''Etv is very excited about being awarded a DVB-H mobile television licence,'' e.tv tells me. ''This mobile television licence offers an opportunity to offer new services to viewers and to reach new viewers as well,'' I'm told. ''We literally received the licences this morning, so we're looking at the terms and conditions.''

''We are in discussions with MultiChoice and Dstv since we share a mux for the roll-out. We can now sit down and see what we can and can't do and we can now start planning in terms of the services we can and want to provide,'' says e.tv who doesn't want to put a date on the launch of a start-up mobile TV service yet. ''Icasa gave us 12 months and we need to sit and do planning. It's too early to give a timeframe for launches and a lot of discussions still need to happen.''
