Although the highest authority at the South African public broadcaster, the SABC board, called the foolhardy, unilateral, secretive and shortsighted ''appointment'' by SABC board chairman dr. Ben Ngubane and SABC group CEO Solly Mokoetle of Phil Molefe as the new head of news in May ''null and void with no legal effect'', the SABC News division is shamelessly and blatantly trotting out Phil Molefe on TV as the broadcaster's (permanent new) head of news.
Meanwhile the SABC steadfastly refuse to tell me or to confirm Phil Molefe's job title and position. I asked the SABC to confirm for me what Phil Molefe's job title and position is after SABC News pushed Phil Molefe onto all of the broadcaster's news bulletins on SABC1, SABC2 and SABC3 on Thursday and on SABC2's breakfast show Morning Live on Friday - knowing full well that the broadcaster's top brass is embroiled in a strained, heated and bitterly divided split over the contentious ''appointment'' with the SABC on the one side and its chair dr. Ben Ngubane and the general blindly following his orders, Solly Mokoetle. Why would SABC News add fuel to the fire and deliberately put Phil Molefe on television and blatantly shove his ''new'' job title in everyone's faces when the SABC division knows there's problems?
In Phil Molefe's on-air appearances this week, SABC News didn't indicate that Phil Molefe is the ''acting'' head of news which he's been before the shambles of an ''appointment'' that didn't follow SABC corporate governance. SABC News didn't shy away one ounce to trumpet in public that Phil Molefe is apparently the ''permanent'' News Group Executive at the SABC, blatantly pushing an agenda to cement Phil Molefe's new job status. It's then with irony that the SABC tells me that ''in response to your enquiry, we have said everything that needs to be said on the matter in the public domain." (Oh? When???)
