I can reveal that On Digital Media (ODM) is set to add at least 5 - possibly as much as 10 - new TV channels to the new South African pay TV operator's TopTV bouquet in October.
According to insider sources I talked to, ''definitely between 5 and 10 TV channels'' will be added to TopTV in October - and perhaps even a bit sooner if ODM's channel carriage deals can be signed off earlier. That will mean that South African TV viewers are in for a bumper month in October in which MultiChoice's DStv has its birthday and is set to add a few channels, and TopTV expands its offering. Neither currently plan to increasing subscription prices. (Sources within MultiChoice tells me that the company is also working on other exciting developments that the TV platform plans to unveil soon.)
Sources at TopTV couldn't tell me whether the between 5 and 10 new TopTV channels will all be rolled out in bulk at once, or whether their addition and activation will be staggered over the course of days or possible weeks. ''It's not been decided yet but it will definitely all happen within the next two months,'' TV with Thinus has been told.
