The Digital Dzonga as a council has to advise the minister as well as South Africa's television industry about the migration process of digital terrestrial television (DTT) whereby the country will be switching over from analogue TV broadcasts to a system of digital television similar to the rest of the world. The 15 new members have been appointed for a five year term and include members from the previous council and come from a variety of backgrounds such as signal distribution and the broadcasting industry as well as consumer, government and labour groups.
Prof Mamokgethi Setati of Unisa is the new Digital Dzong chairperson, with Ruddy Rashama as the deputy chairperson. The rest of the new Digital Dzonga advisory council includes Nomvuyiso Batyi (an Icasa council member), Dingane Dube (a Sentech executive), Calvo Mawela (previous Digital Dzonga member), Karen Willenberg (M-Net's head of regulatory affairs and previously a Digital Dzonga member), Zubair Munshi (e.tv executive), Sabelo Silinga (an SABC content executive), Richard Paulton (an operations manager in Telkom and previous Digital Dzonga member), advocate Cawekazi Mahlati (who advisor president Nelson Mandela on the formation of the post apartheid censorship board), Llewellyn Jones, Julia Hope, Masodi Xaba, Hlukanisa Zitha and Rosey Sekese from the department of communications.
