BREAKING. Digital migration mess might mean that South Africa might miss the deadline for switch-over to digital terrestrial television.
South Africa might miss the set deadline of November 2011 by which the country has to complete the process of digital migration to digital terrestrial television (DTT) in which TV broadcasts in South Africa switch from the current analogue broadcasting system to a digital broadcasting environment.
The minister of communications, Siphiwe Nyanda who announced the 15 names of the members who will comprise the new Digital Dzonga advisory council, says South Africa's switch-over deadline of November 2011 might have to be moved on. The new Digital Dzonga will advise him of whether the deadline will need to be extended, after which the government and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) could amend the current digital migration regulations.
