CNN International's Octavia Nasr fired after her controversial tweet; something she ''deeply regrets''.

Octavia Nasr, the Middle East affairs correspondent for CNN International (DStv 401) is in big trouble after she tweeted: ''Sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. One of Hezbollah's giants I respect a lot."

The group is known for supporting terrorism and Octavia Nasr's very controversial tweet about the Lebanese cleric is now raising more than just eyebrows.

On CNN's This Just In news blog, Octavia Nasr is now saying sorry. ''It was an error of judgment for me to write such a simplistic comment and I'm sorry because it conveyed that I supported Fadlallah's life's work. That's not the case at all.'' She ends her blog posting with: ''Sayyed Fadlallah. Revered across borders yet designated a terrorist. Not the kind of life to be commenting about in a brief tweet. It's something I deeply regret.''

I'm awaiting word from CNN International on whether the TV news channel has anything to say on the matter and Octavia Nasr.

UPDATE Thursday 8 July 2010 00:05 - I haven't gotten any response from CNN yet, who has now, according to The New York Times, fired Octavia Nasr on Wednesday. Octavia Nasr is a longtime CNN employee and the news channel's senior editor for Middle Eastern affairs. According to The New York Times, Parisa Khosravi, the senior vice president for CNN International Newsgathering, said in an internal memorandum that she ''had a conversation''with Octavia Nasr on Wednesday and that ''we have decided that she will be leaving the company''. ''At this point, we believe that her credibility in her position as senior editor for Middle Eastern affairs has been compromised going forward''.
