SABC IN CRISIS: ''Critical moment for the SABC,'' says SOS; urges ''immediate and strong action'' against Solly Mokoetle, Ben Ngubane.

MAJOR CRISIS AT THE SABC!

The SABC is embroiled in a MASSIVE SCANDAL with fast moving developments on basically a daily basis regarding a new internal leadership crisis right at the top. South Africa's public broadcaster is being shaken to its core a mere year after the SABC was embroiled in massive financial mismanagement, corruption and leadership infighting.

The SABC is once again turned into a NATIONAL EMBARRASSEMENT by these people who only care for their own short-sighted self-interests and NEED TO BE FIRED! :
1.The arrogant, power-hungry, obsessed, undemocratic, aloof and despotic dr. Ben Ngubane who is the SABC chairperson and who unilaterally told the SABC's group CEO Solly Mokoetle to appoint Phil Molefe as the new head of news. Since the new sorry SABC saga erupted two weeks ago, dr. Ben Ngubane has blatantly been putting his own interests ahead of that of the SABC.

2.The arrogant and inept SABC group CEO Solly Mokoetle who is seemingly only taking orders from dr. Ben Ngubane, is arrogantly defying the SABC board as the broadcaster's highest executive body. He told the SABC's news staff that the scandalous appointment of Phil Molefe as the head of news WILL stand.

The public pressure group Support Public Broadcasting (SOS) just issued a STRONG STATEMENT saying its ''dismayed'' that Solly Mokoetle has gone ahead with the appointment of Phil Molefe ''given that the SABC board - which is required to make such an appointment, has already recinded the appointment. Solly Mokoetle is now further deepening the corporate governance crisis at the SABC,'' says the SOS. ''The SABC board needs to take immediate, appropriate and strong action against Solly Mokoetle.''

SOS continues: ''Ben Ngbane, chair of the SABC board, has shown flagrant disregard for good corporate governance practices. We call on the SABC board to take strong, decisive action against Ben Ngubane as well. Unless strong action is taken now we have no assurance that these kinds of corporate governance breaches will not take place in future.''

SOS is also upset that the minister of communications, the seemingly non-existent genl. Siphiwe Nyanda is now making grovelling noises about wanting to intervene. ''The SOS is extremely concerned at the minister's would-be involvement in what's essentially SABC board decisions as this can only undermine the SABC's independence and its standing as a public as opposed to a state broadcaster. The fact that this dispute concerns the appointment of the head of news makes it even more essential that the minister is not seen to be meddling in such appointments.''

Hectic, major stuff.

Finally the SOS has this appeal for the communications portfolio committee at parliament: ''We call on the portfolio committee to convene an urgent public hearing to look into these matters. As our public representatives, the communications portfolio committee needs to hold the SABC to account. It would be a dereliction of duty for the committee not to investigate these corporate governance breaches and ensure that every measure has been put in place to stop such breaches occurring in future. Parliament cannot afford to sit back while this serious lack of professionalism and commitment to basic corporate governance principles is being so flagrantly displayed - by both the chair Ben Ngubane and the group CEO, Solly Mokoetle.''

''This is a critical moment for the SABC – and in particular the SABC board. The Board has to stand up and show its mettle. There is no time to lose.''
