Sources within the SABC's commercial enterprises division tell me exclusively that the public broadcaster expects to dominate in South Africa's TV viewership ratings race from mid June to mid July. SABC sources are now confident that the SABC's TV channels are going to dominate in the viewership race with the expectation that three out of every four TV sets in South Africa will be tuned to the SABC and the broadcaster's 2010 FIFA World Cup coverage, its magazine TV shows, as well as the broadcast of live matches during prime time.
I can tell you that the SABC, the official broadcaster in South Africa of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament, is now anticipating that it will increase its prime time TV viewing audience on a daily basis from 67% to a whopping 73% market share from June 10 until the middle of July. SABC1 will show the bulk of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer matches, with 56 matches that will be broadcast live on the channel. SABC2 will show eight of the 2010 FIFA World Cup matches live. SABC3 will carry repeats of selected matches as voted for by viewers.
