BREAKING. The SABC announces the broadcaster's comprehensive 2010 World Cup soccer tournament plans and coverage.

 I told you earlier in the week that the SABC is set to announce their 2010 FIFA World Cup plans and the South African public broadcaster just did so: the SABC will set up a special SABC Broadcast Centre at the Sandton Convention Centre that will be paid for in terms of R13,9 million in an ad exchange, with several international and local presenters, producers and experts on hands during the course of the tournament.

The SABC, as the official broadcaster of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will cover the soccer tournament on television with 64 games on SABC1 and SABC2 and repeats on SABC3 from June 11 until July 11.

For this the SABC will make use of four outside broadcast (OB) units, all high definition (HD) ready (although South Africans won't see it on SABC1 and SABC2 in HD - and three of the OB units which were successfully tested earlier this year during the Confederations Cup.

The SABC will use some new cameras (an additional ultra motion camera, an aerial coverage camera and a cable camera system) for select matches in the twenty nine camera productions. The SABC will also have a tactical camera for commentary and analysis and will have full access to the FIFA content library and daily highlights packages.

The SABC will also broadcast the games to all FIFA Fan Fests on big screen televisions at 46  - what the SABC calls - Public Viewing Areas (PVA's).

The SABC's international production experts for the 2010 FIFA World Cup broadcast include Colin Davidson and Rupert Bush.

The SABC's on-air talent for the 2010 FIFA World Cup broadcast include international talent such as Abedi Pele, Paul Ince, Dwight Yorke, Bernard Lama, Luiz Scolari and Osvaldo Ardiles. Local TV talent that will be seen on the SABC as 2010 FIFA World Cup presenters include Clive Barker, Stephen Khompela, John Moeti, Roger De Sa, Owen Da Gama, Fran Hilton-Smith and Desiree Ellis.

Besides these faces, viewers on SABC1 and SABC2 will also see anchor presenters Walter Mokoena, Tshepo Mabona, Kwena Moabelo, Lindani Mbensi and presenters Jonty Mark, Vaylen KirtleyLebo MotsoeliJeffery Zikhali and Joy Monareng.

Anaylists who will pop up on the SABC include Mike Mangena, Shakes Kungane, Deshi Bhaktawer, David Kekana and Marks Maponyane. Commentators that the SABC will be using, will include Duane Dell Oca and Sizwe Mabena. Christopher Bongo and Amakwaa Coudjoe will form a part of the African analysts team for the SABC.
