Cobus Bodenstein/M-Net
You're reading it here first.Taking into account what is now becoming very obvious - looking at the massive and spontaneously huge response under contestants - the sixth season of Idols on M-Net is now destined to deliver a massive new Idols season to the pay broadcaster.
I can tell you first that yesterday's Durban audition day for Idols which I wrote about HERE has now pulled in more than 900 contestants. That is way more than Durban's fifth season audition response to Idols. Durban as the second stop in the nationwide Idols audition phase continues the trend of Cape Town where the Idols audition process kicked off and lured more than 1 400 contestants. (Previously Cape Town pulled 690 contestants). Somehow Idols has galvanized viewers who have definitely not tired of the reality fame seeking show.
Just Cape Town's 1 400 contestants is already almost half of the total number of Idols entries there were for the fifth season. Adding the more than 900 for Durban (only the second city, with Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein still to come) M-Net is very likely destined to see a strong season for Idols TV content as well as viewership wise when the show debuts in July.
