MultiChoice says Saturday's abrupt DStv blackout of M-Net and SuperSport TV channels was due to a power failure.

MultiChoice's abrupt blackout this past Saturday afternoon - which saw M-Net's range of channels and SuperSport go dark on DStv - was caused by an unexpected power failure.

The DStv Call Centre was unavailable on Saturday for hours following the crisis, when several TV channels on DStv went dark - all M-Net supplied channels ranging from M-Net (DStv 101), M-Net Edge (DStv 102) to the set of M-Net Movies channels, VUZU and the Big Brother Mzansi channels.

SuperSport's channels starting at the 200 and upwards channel number range on DStv's channel line-up also experienced the blackout with subscribers getting a "service not available" on-screen message.

MultiChoice is now giving the cause of the DStv blackout, and told TV with Thinus that "we had a power supply failure on our equipment that delivers the signal to the channels".

MultiChoice managed to restore the lost TV channels on Saturday afternoon and apologised to DStv subscribers for the interruption in their viewing.
