New channel AfricaMagic Igbo from M-Net launching on MultiChoice's DStv on 2 April to showcase Nigeria's Igbo language culture.

As expected and reported earlier, M-Net will now launch a new AfricaMagic TV channel on MultiChoice's DStv, AfricaMagic Igbo on 2 April at 19:00.

AfricaMagic Igbo, created to broadcast Igbo language entertainment content in Nigeria, will be on DStv channel 159 to bring to 8 the number of AfricaMagic TV channels from M-Net.

The launch of AfricaMagic Igbo comes as M-Net will shut down the failed Maisha Magic at the end of May and is rebranding and changing AfricaMagic Urban Movies' name and positioning to AfricaMagic Urban after 7 months since that channel last changed.

Beyond Nigeria for which AfricaMagic Igbo is primarily intended, the Igbo language is also spoken in a number of other African countries like Equatorial Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon.

"Igbo language entertainment content has always played a prominent role in the Nigerian film and television industry and we are glad to offer a platform where this rich content can be showcased to the rest of Africa and the world," says Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, M-Net's director for West Africa.

"Viewers can definitely expect to see the best of Igbo culture and talent on display," says John Ugbe, MultiChoice Nigeria's managing director.
