MultiChoice is dropping the price of its wunder machine the DStv Explora, with its top-of-the-line high definition (HD) PVR decoder which is costing only R1999 from today - for a month - to help stimulate DStv Explora sales and uptake for the 2014 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.

The DStv Explora will cost only R1999 from today until 15 June as part of a marketing campaign of MultiChoice for the 2014 FIFA World Cup which kicks off on 12 June.

MultiChoice and SuperSport have not released details, but similar to the last Rugby World Cup, it is a absolute certainty that sports and soccer lovers will get multiple additional programming, extra content, magazine shows and further DStv Catch Up and on demand content which will be made available on the DStv Explora to DStv subscribers once the World Cup soccer starts.

The new recommended retail price of R1999 (a DStv Explora usually retails for R2499) is effective in South Africa at Game, Dion Wired, Makro, House & Home, Pick & Pay, Hi-Fi Corporation, OK Furniture, Bradlows and Morkels.

Last month MultiChoice Nigeria announced that it will be slashing DStv Explora decoder prices by almost half (43%) for the 2014 FIFA World Cup where the DStv Explora was just introduced as a new DStv decoder model.
