SABC3 dumps December cricket coverage; has nothing for cricket fans after plans to show three T20 matches goes nowhere.

"We don't like cricket ... we hate it."

That's seems and apt spin for a slogan for SABC3.

The public broadcaster's commercial TV channel which has for years broadcast year-end cricket matches will have nothing for viewers this year when it comes to cricket coverage during the December summer days.

SABC3 will have however a lot of "comprehensive and compelling" coverage of the ANC and the ANC's National Conference, as will SABC2 and SABC1.

SABC3 was supposed to broadcast at least three T20 cricket games between South Africa and New Zealand taking place between 21 and 26 December but none of that will be happening this year with viewers who will either have to tune to SuperSport to catch the cricket coverage or see nothing.

According to sources contract negotiations were not concluded in time and the SABC didn't bother further.

SABC3, asked two weeks ago about the channel's cricket plans and why there is a problem and why the T20 matches have not been picked up, didn't bother to respond to media enquiries.
