TopTV silent on new channels after promising replacement channels in the place of Hi Nolly and One Music in November.

TopTV remains silent after it initially promised ''replacement channels'' when Hi Nolly and One Music disappeared in November 2011 when pay TV operator HiTV stopped broadcasting.

HiTV was closed down in November after the company collapsed under enormous debt. Although not TopTV's fault, the South African pay TV operator promised subscribers replacement channels but has so far said nothing since.

In December TopTV removed the channel messages and the channel accessibility on the electronic programme guide (EPG) grid, making channels 120 and 506 invisible.

TopTV is keeping the monthly price of its bouquets the same since November, although it's offering less to subscribers than it's initial sales agreement - a contravention of South Africa's Consumer Protection Act.

According to the South African Consumer Protection Act, TopTV subscribers are entitled to demand a replacement to the same value, or a refund due to ''the service promised not being delivered''.

Despite repeated media enquiries made to TopTV - the last this past Thursday - on what TopTV's plans are regarding replacement channels, the pay operator has not responded with an answer from the content division.

UPDATE Monday 9 January 14:15 - TopTV just responded, saying ''The content team is urgently chasing up on a few alternative options, and is hoping to be in a position to make an announcement shortly.''
