Programming note: Final flight of the space shuttle Atlantis an all access TV special on the Discovery Channel on Sunday 7 August at 19:05.

Last Flight of the Space Shuttle on Sunday, 7 August at 19:05 on the Discovery Channel (DStv 121) is an all-access special show, a pear in the making that will feature footage of the launch filmed at the Kenny Space Center of the last flight and mission to space of the space shuttle Atlantis.

Thirty years after the first shuttle launch the eyes of the world were once again on Nasa's Kennedy Space Center this past Friday as the last space shuttle, Atlantis, launched into space.

''Following on from the recent tsunami special Anatomy of a Disaster that was produced by Discovery Networks, we once again have a fantastic opportunity to offer our African viewers the most cutting edge and topical programming with Last Flight of the Space Shuttle,'' says Lee Hobbs, channel director for emerging business at Discovery Networks for the CEEMEA region.

As the sun set on the shuttle program, it also marked the end of a way of life for a generation of Nasa staff whose lives have largely revolved around these magnificent vehicles. Last Flight of the Space Shuttle features interviews with key players in the Nasa Space Shuttle program, including the four crew members of the last Atlantis flight: mission specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim, as well as commander Chris Ferguson and pilot Doug Hurley.

The TV special looks at the intricate preparations for the momentous final shuttle mission, including the countdown and launch of the shuttle Atlantis from Kennedy Space Center.
