BREAKING. SuperSport set to start SSHD2, a high definition channel on DStv exclusively for English Premier League football action.

You're reading it here first.

I can be first to tell you that SuperSport is set to start another new high definition (HD) channel on DStv and that SuperSport High Definition 2 (or as SuperSport will be calling it, SSHD2) will debut on DStv for DStv Premium subscribers who have a HD PVR at 13:00 on Friday, 13 August on DStv channel 174 exclusively for English Premiership football.

SSHD2 (DStv 174) will broadcast all the English Premier League football action for 24 hours a day in high definition with 380 football matches, of which 180 of them will be broadcast live. SuperSport's deal runs for three years. Live commentary will be available in English as well as Portuguese and SSHD2 (DStv 174) will be broadcast to the whole of sub-Sahara Africa (excluding Nigeria). Besides the eight live matches per week, there will be four weekly sport magazine shows on SSHD2, 400 classic matches as well as a review of the past decade and the best goals from the past 10 premiership seasons.

''This is massive and South Africa will be one of the very first countries to receive the 24 hour channel,'' says Imtiaz Patel, chief executive of SuperSport. “High definition (HD) is the way to go for sports viewing and we are delighted to be leading the way with our partners in England.''
