Walter Mokoena quits the SABC after 19 years as a presenter for SABC Sport; says he's 'not quitting because I had issues' with the SABC.
Walter Mokoena has resigned from the SABC's SABC Sport division where he has been a presenter for almost 19 years saying he's had enough.
"I enjoy challenging myself. I'm not quitting because I had issues, the SABC has been good to me and is the reason I'm the person I am today."
"I’d like to thank the public broadcaster for contributing to the person I’ve become. But I won’t be lost in the game, as I’m running a management company, through which we’ve signed an impressive list of players."
"I’ve been spending most of my time in studio for all these years, so it’s about time I give my kids the attention they want as their father."
Walter Mokoena is a father of two girls and is also lecturing at the University of the Witwatersrand in journalism.
"I’ll always be grateful to the SABC. The company allowed me to grow as a presenter and afforded me opportunities, including starting the Joburg Post, an online news site," he says.

Walter Mokoena replaces Andrew Levy as new sports anchor on e.tv's morning breakfast show, Sunrise.
Replacing Andrew Levy who left e.tv's Sunrise where he became the sports anchor but lasted less than a year, is Walter Mokoena who will appear on-air from Monday 5 May as the new sports anchor.
e.tv couldn't actually get itself to say and make public that Andrew Levy wo became sports anchor in April 2013 had left, but e.tv is now announcing that Walter Mokoena has joined Sunrise.as the sports anchor.
"Walter's experience and industry knowledge has already made him a key addition to the e.tv family," says Nicholas Maphopha, Sunrise executive producer.
"We view his appointment as a sign of commitment to being the leading breakfast show. I am confident that Walter Mokoena will play a key role in providing an informative, current and entertaining presentation for our viewers with the upcoming Brazil 2014 FIFA Soccer World Cup," says Nicholas Maphopha.
Walter Mokoena previously was at the SABC for a decade working for the SABC Sport division where he was the Laduma presenter, he also worked for Trace Sports Stars (DStv 188) last year.
e.tv tells TV with Thinus in response to a media enquiry that "Walter Mokoena is not replacing Andrew Levy. Andrew Levy resigned at the beginning of this year and the Sunrise team, Ayanda Bandla and Faith Mangope have been handing the sports".

Former SABC sports anchor Walter Mokoena to return to television as the South African correspondent for Trace Sports for Afcon 2013.
Walter Mokoena, the former SABC sports presenter and sports anchor is making a "comeback" of sorts to television - he has signed a contract to become the South African correspondent for Trace Sports (DStv 188) for Afcon 2013.
Walter Mokoena will be sharing his soccer expertise with viewers between 18 January to 10 February.
Trace Sports plans to programme four evenings of special 2013 Afcon coverage ranging from gossip about the tournament to predictions and insiders' info.
