CNBC Africa quietly gets rid of The Tonight Show following Jay Leno's exit and its replacement with Jimmy Fallon.
CNBC Africa (DStv 410) which also didn't hype the final few episodes which had big-name guests, quietly got rid of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on it schedule.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno ended a week later in South Africa in early February when late night comedian Jimmy Fallon took over as the new host of The Tonight Show.
The Tonight Show disappeared from CNBC Africa and will not be back.
The TV channel replaced The Tonight Show timeslot with business programmes.
"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno contract came to an end at the same time as Jay Leno's retirement from the show. CNBC Africa has decided not to renew this agreement," a CNBC Africa spokesperson tells TV with Thinus.
This leaves the door open for a channel such as Sony Entertainment Television (DStv 127) which previously had The Late Show with David Letterman and currently Arsenio, or M-Net's M-Net Series Reality (DStv 114) specialising in current American talk shows, to pick up the weeknight American talker.
The hipper, younger The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon debuted to record ratings and has maintained its strong viewership the past month.
