Katlego Maboe has been arrested with the former Expresso presenter on SABC3 and face of Outsurance commercials who has appeared in court in the continuing case against his former lover Monique Muller.

On Sunday the Rapport newspaper reported that Katlego Maboe was arrested just after New Year's Day and appeared in court on 6 January 2021. All of the specific charges are not yet known.

Lerato Maleswena, Katlego Maboe's new publicist, told Rapport that the Monique Muller's charge is false and an attempt to harass and victimise him and to inflict emotional, reputational and economic damage.

According to the newspaper, Katlego Maboe allegedly ousted Monique Muller from the Seapoint flat in Cape Town they once shared before the shattering of their relationship and also stopped paying full rent.

The newspaper also reports that a complaint has been laid against Katlego Maboe's lawyer, Ellen Louise at South Africa's Legal Practice Council over alleged text messages from her to Monique Muller's family and that family members claim to be hurtful and that have been sent to the council.

The Western Cape branch of the Legal Practice Council confirmed that they're investigating the case and are waiting for reaction from Ellen Louise against the allegations.

In late-October the public image of Katlego Maboe abruptly turned toxic when Monique Muller, his former lover who is the mother of his 2-year old son, in a video accused him of allegedly giving her a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that damaged her womb.

In another video Monique Muller claimed that Katlego Maboe allegedly physically abused her as well, saying that "When the first physical attack happened I got a protection order against him".

In the video, Katlego, dressed in a gown, sheepishly admits to having cheated on her with another woman identified as Nikkita Murray who has since locked her social media accounts.

Mired in public scandal, Katlego Maboe then disappeared from the public eye, and said in a terse statement that "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings".

"In light of the comments made against me, I would like to state that I have never abused my partner".

The disgraced Katlego Maboe was immediately let go from SABC3's Expresso produced by Cardova Productions and was also dropped by Outsurance as the face of its commercials  and replaced by Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp.

Katlego Maboe was summoned to appear in court in November 2020 on charges of harassment of Monique Muller after he had allegedly violated the court's protection order not to stay away from her.

In South Africa, a protection order aims at preventing the reoccurrence of alleged domestic violence or sexual harassment by stating what conduct the alleged offender must refrain from doing. 

Katlego Maboe allegedly broke the stipulations of the protection order that Monique Muller obtained on 3 September in Seapoint, Cape Town. The case was postponed due to a docket that was not delivered to court on time. Katlego Maboe is disputing these charges as well.

In other new revelations during November a close confidant of Monique Muller revealed to YOU and Huisgenoot magazines that Katlego Maboe was allegedly not the man that viewers saw on TV.

Monique in July 2020 discovered that Katlego Maboe allegedly gave her an STD, according to insiders.

He apparently travelled to Kiev, Ukraine to watch a soccer match while he was a brand ambassador for Lay's Chips where he later admitted to Monique that he kissed one of the women who won the competition on a dancefloor. He later allegedly had sex with this woman in a hotel room.

Undelivered docket drama sees Expresso TV presenter Katlego Maboe's court appearance postponed.

A masked Expresso TV presenter Katlego Maboe did appear at Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning but the case had to be postponed following missing docket drama.

The disgraced TV host was summoned to appear in court today on charges of harassment of Monique Muller after the SABC3 presenter allegedly violated the court's protection order not to stay away from his former lover who is the mother of his 2-year old son.

In South Africa, a protection order aims at preventing the reoccurrence of alleged domestic violence or sexual harassment by stating what conduct the alleged offender must refrain from doing. 

Katlego Maboe allegedly broke the stipulations of the protection order that Monique Muller obtained on 3 September in Seapoint, Cape Town.

Eric Ntabazalila, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape, on Tuesday said that Katlego Maboe's case had to be postponed on Tuesday since the prosecutor of the case was not aware of the case and discovered the news about the court appearance from reading about it in the media.

"The expected court appearance of Katlego Maboe did not take place this morning. When the prosecutor saw an article about allegations made, she contacted the police and asked about the court appearance.  She was given today’s date for the court appearance," Eric Ntabazalila said.

"This morning the docket was not brought to court as was expected. She has since asked for the docket to peruse it. No date has been set yet for the appearance."

Expresso publicist El Broide said in a statement that the SABC3 show "condemns any acts of violence and mistreatment, especially against women and children, and therefore take such allegations very seriously".

"Until such time as the matter has been fully investigated, and pending the outcome, Katlego Maboe will not be appearing on Expresso".

The insurance company Outsurance rushed to re-edit and scrub all traces of him from all of the insurance company's "Chencha dai deng" TV commercials, now only showing testimonials of customers without Katlego interviewing them.

The insurance company that is removing all of its TV commercials featuring Katlego Maboe after a growing scandal around the Expresso presenter and his acrimonious marital relationship including allegations of physical abuse, says he doesn't work for Outsurance, is an actor that was used and got fully paid for it.

Outsurance says that the "other woman" Nikita Murray who Katlego Maboe allegedly had secret hotel sex with, last worked for the insurance company two years ago.

Scandal is swirling around Katlego Maboe who has been removed from Expresso on SABC3 while insurer Outsurance is removing all of its TV commercials starring him "as soon as possible". 

It follows his confession of having cheated on Monique Muller and which led to Monique allegedly getting a sexually transmitted disease (STD). 

Monique also claims physical abuse. Her brother Seth Muller alleged that Katlego Maboe also cheated on Monique Muller while she was pregnant with their son and multiple other times.

In a statement, Katlego Maboe said that "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings".

Monique Muller did a sit-down interview with the GoBinge channel on YouTube that released a 1-minute teaser about the upcoming interview that it plans to release sometime this week. 

Outsurance on Monday morning told TVwithThinus that "Following media reports of infidelity and an acrimonious marital relationship, including alleged physical abuse, involving Katlego Maboe, Outsurance has engaged extensively with Katlego Maboe and it was decided that Katlego and his family should be afforded the space and time to deal with this matter".

"As part of that discussion, the proposal was to in the meantime suspend all advertisements featuring Katlego. Outsurance remains of the opinion that the matter should be resolved in private."

Outsurance says that "It is important to note that Katlego Maboe is not an Outsurance employee or a permanent contractor to Outsurance. He is a professional actor who is paid on a campaign by campaign basis."

"Katlego Maboe has received his full compensation from Outsurance for all past as well as the current campaign in which he was featured. This includes performance as well as full usage fees for the entire campaign."

"We also want to clarify that Nikita Murray is not a current Outsurance employee. She last worked for the company in 2018. Katlego Maboe and Nikita Murray met independently and not via any relation to Outsurance."

Shock and scandal is swirling around the Expresso presenter Katlego Maboe on SABC3, also known as the face of countless Outsurance "Chencha Daideng!" TV commercials, who has confessed to cheating on his partner with an Outsurance employee which resulted in his partner allegedly getting a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Following the release of a shocking and lurid video on social media on Thursday night that quickly went viral with thousands of views and comments from South Africans, Katlego Maboe who've won SAFTA awards as Best TV presenter, posted a statement on Twitter admitting to having cheated on his partner and that they are separating because of it.

"Truth: I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings," Katlego Maboe said.

"As you can imagine, separations are quite a difficult thing to deal with, especially with a child involved. In light of the comments made against me, I would like to state that I have never abused my partner."

"I have always and will always stand up against the abuse of women and children - in fact, the abuse of anyone for that matter. I had chosen to deal with this matter privately to protect and safeguard our child. At the end of the day, our child is all that matters to me."

"However, I will leave this to the legal system and let the truth have its day," Katlego Maboe said.

In the shocking video, Katlego Maboe confesses his infidelity to his partner who confronts him and records him and asks him who he has had sex with. Eventually he tells her, after his wife tells him that he might never see their son again. 

Katlego Maboe mentions the name of a woman who works at Outsurance in Cape Town and admits that he had sex with her at a hotel but that it only happened once.

Katlego Maboe's partner in the video alleges that Katlego Maboe gave her a sexually-transmitted disease (STD) that has damaged her womb, affecting the chances of her having another child.

On Friday morning Katlego Maboe was absent from Expresso's Cape Town studios in Tokai with Friday's edition that was anchored by Graeme Richards, Ryle DeMorny, Jamie-Lee Domburg and Thabiso Makhubela but it's not clear whether he was slated to be on as one of group of rotating presenters of the weekday morning show produced by Cardova Productions.

Following his cheating scandal it's not yet clear whether Katlego Maboe is getting dropped as an Expresso presenter or if he will be temporarily removed from his on-screen role. 

SABC3 as well as Expresso, through its PR agency The Platinum Club, were asked in late-night media enquiries for comment which will be added here once received.

Outsurance was also asked in a late-night media enquiry on Thursday night for comment about Katlego Maboe and the video that trended on Thursday night. 

Outsurance was also asked whether Outsurance is removing the TV commercials and campaign in which he appears and whether Outsurance will continue to use him in its TV commercials. Comment from Outsurance will be added here once it's received.

UPDATE Friday 23 October 2020 07:48: Katlego Maboe made his first appearance on Expresso at 07:43 on Friday morning in a pre-recorded Halloween arts and crafts segment, adding a "black eye" and saying "I don't know what I'm doing".

UPDATE Friday 23 October 2020 09:36: SABC3 in a statement tells TVwithThinus "We have been made aware of the issue regarding Katlego Maboe. However, Cardova, the production house is handling the matter following their internal processes. Notwithstanding, the SABC as a responsible broadcaster stands firm and remains committed to the fight against gender-based violence (GBV)".

UPDATE Friday 23 October 2020 09:49: Fabrizia Degli Esposti, Katlego Maboe's publicist, says "The allegations made against Katlego Maboe are false and are an attempt by his former partner to harass and victimise him in order to cause emotional harm, as well as reputational and economic damage. The matter is currently being litigated and is therefore sub-judice, and accordingly he cannot comment further as to do so would potentially be undermining the court's process. Katlego Maboe kindly asks for privacy at this time."

UPDATE Friday 23 October 2020 10:06: Cardova Productions in a statement tells TVwithThinus that Katlego Maboe has been removed from Expresso pending an internal investigation and that the SABC3 morning show "condemns any acts of violence and mistreatment, especially against women and children and take such allegations very seriously".

"Certain serious allegations have been posted on social media about Katlego Maboe and, last night, a video was leaked showing Katlego Maboe seemingly admitting to cheating on his partner. We have been informed that a legal process relating to the allegations is currently sub-judice."

"We condemn any acts of violence and mistreatment, especially against women and children, and therefore take such allegations very seriously. Until such time as the matter has been fully investigated, and pending the outcome, Katlego Maboe will not be appearing on The Expresso Morning Show."

UPDATE Friday 23 October 2020 10:51: Natasha Kawulesar, Outsurance spokesperson, tells TVwithThinus that it is removing all Outsurance TV commercials with Katlego Maboe immediately as soon as possible. 

“We are aware of the issue surrounding Katlego Maboe and have engaged with him on this. We want to provide Katlego and his family the time and space to deal with this private situation. In the meantime, we will be removing all advertisements featuring Katlego as soon as practically possible.”

Survivor SA: Champions on M-Net and host Nico Panagio trash their brands by shilling for Outsurance and turning it into an infomercial.

Shamelessly exploiting real emotion and turning it into empty sentimentalism, Survivor SA: Champions on M-Net (DStv 101) and host Nico Panagio damaged their brands by turning the latest episode of the reality show into a crass Outsurance life insurance infomercial, taking in-show product placement in South African television just too far.

M-Net, producer Endemol South Africa, and Nico Panagio damaged the South African version of Survivor in a way CBS, Mark Burnett Productions and Jeff Probst would never do or even consider for the American version, when Nico Panagio suddenly turned Outsurance infomercial spokesperson in episode 15 of Survivor SA: Champions.

While Survivor SA made use of product placement since the first season - and quite cleverly, properly and appropriately previously when Pick n Pay was a sponsor - the latest episode of Survivor SA: Champions on M-Net went too far in the latest episode.

It damages not just the integrity of the show and a brand like Survivor and Survivor SA overall, but the credibility and integrity of Nico Panagio, and M-Net as a TV channel.

When the remaining Survivor SA: Champions contestants were united with their mothers, Endemol South Africa, M-Net and life insurer Outsurance came together to have Nico Panagio launch into a long and shocking in-show infomercial soliloquy, damaging the episode ... forever.

How this trashy infomercial insertion will come across in future in potential reruns if there ever are any, when it just randomly gets broadcast, is probably not even a worry for M-Net now; how the show will play in future, and look editorially, seemingly an after-thought.

The pay-TV broadcaster is apparently more focused on giving in-show programming time to a sponsor because it makes balance sheet sense now - in order "to get something out": money. But this "native advertising" can never be undone and is a scar inflicted which didn't need to be there.

Standing with their mothers with obligatory nods to camera - as if to signal and strengthen with their non-verbal nods agreement of the planted message for commercial gain - Nico Panagio shamelessly shilled for Outsurance on Survivor SA: Champions.

"Now here's a thought: Just like you guys were covered from head to toe in mud in this challenge, Outsurance has a range of comprehensive life insurance to ensure the well-being of your family," Nico Panagio told the contestants - and viewers - with a straight face.

"And because everyone's situation is different, you can tailor make your cover, to suit you specific needs; ensuring your family's well-being; giving you peace of mind and them as well. And security of course."

"And we also all know, that you always get something out with Outsurance. And today's winner of this challenge, definitely gets something out," said Nico Panagio.

It was too much.

Trash television like this, terribly done, belongs as a separate stand-alone infomercial in wasteland mid-morning television.

It doesn't belong in a so-called premium, made for prime time TV production. It cheapens not just the overall production values of a show like Survivor SA: Champions, it sells out everything and everyone in it.

And why stop with one? Strangely the pizza in the Survivor SA: Champions episode on M-Net wasn't preceded by a Panarottis infomercial; there was no Cardies infomercials for the tearful moms' moments.

If a premium pay-TV broadcaster like M-Net cannot make a show without keeping a sponsor contained to ads during commercial breaks and bumpers, and is unable to seamlessly and cleverly integrate product placement sensitively and discreetly as an editorially functional element into a show, what does it say about South African television and TV production?

That we can't have TV, big TV, or "good" TV without commercial considerations blatantly intruding and having companies riding rough shot over, and into, the narratives of show?

The TV irony here is that with a cheap and awfully done Outsurance infomercial slap bang inside Survivor SA: Champions on M-Net, it is the ordinary TV viewer who gets the least out of it of everyone.
