A STITCH IN TIME: Will Mzansi Magic's new special about Idols' Khaya Mthethwa's include the fence injury, medical drama and stitches?
Will the two-part TV special on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) when cameras followed the new Idols winner Khaya Mthethwa for 48 hours include any of the medical emergency drama, the mad hospital dash, and the seven stitches down his cheek Khaya Mthethwa received when an over-zealous crowd rushed him and he was cut open by a palisade fence when fans jumped on him in Umlazi?
Mzansi Magic has scheduled the two-part special, Move: The Rise of Khaya Mthethwa for Sunday 4 November at 16:00 and part two (a concert at uSkaha Marine World) for Sunday 11 November at 16:00 on the channel.
According to Mzansi Magic, the two-part TV special will "give viewers a glimpse into the life of South Africa's newest singing sensation". Cameras followed him for 48 hours as he boarded a plane to his hometown of Durban after winning Idols.
According to Mzansi Magic, part one will show Khaya Mthethwa doing press interviews, a mayoral convoy, authograph signing sessions as well as an open top bus procession around Durban. In part two entitled "The Homecoming Concert" Khaya Mthethwa performs for fans at uShaka Marine World which includes all of the songs he sang during his time on Idols as well as a sneak peak of his new album.
No word yet on whether the two part TV special includes a reality sneak peek of the cut on his face when fans stormed him and security guards had to whisk him away. That and the police escort to get him medical attention is probably part of what reality TV fans who watched this reality TV show might really be interested in actually seeing.
UPDATE Wednesday 17:10 - Mzansi Magic confirms to me that the medical emergency and the drama surrounding Khaya Mthethwa's head injury and the stitches he had to get will indeed be forming part of this TV special.

Khaya Mthethwa on winning Idols: 'I'm absolutely humbled that South Africa voted. I believe in a competition like Idols to help find new talent.'

"I'm absolutely so humbled that South Africa voted," says new Idols winner Khaya Mthethwa (25) from Durban.
He answered questions at the press conference after he was announced the winner of the 8th season of the show which is a co-production between M-Net (DStv 101) and Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).
"At the end of the day, you can't fool South Africa. If I or anyone else can't sing, I can't sing. And South Africans won't vote. I just appreciate the votes and I believe in a competition like Idols to help find new talent.
"I'm thrilled, I'm so excited, and I'm only expecting the best to happen from here [on]. I can't wait to get into studio and do what I love to do."
The live finale was marred by members of the studio audience and supporters of Khaya Mthethwa loudly booing fellow contestant Melissa Alisson - the first time something like that happened during an Idols finale - and it is something which Khaya Mthethwa said he doesn't appreciate at all.
"That's not right. I just want to congratulate Melissa on making it this far. She's a friend of mine, I appreciate her, I love her and if I'd heard [the audience booing], I would have been one of the first people saying that's not right."
BREAKING. Khaya Mthethwa from Durban is the winner of Idols' 8th season on M-Net; beats Melissa Alisson in viewers' votes.
Khaya Mthethwa winning Idols is significant since it marks the second win for a contestant from Durban (following Jason Hartman) (a Port Elizabeth contestant is still to win) and also the first black male winner for the reality show on M-Net which has become a co-production the last two seasons with the Mzansi Magic channel.
I flew to Johannesburg this afternoon and attended the live finale and will be at M-Net's post show press conference where I'll ask questions; check back later for more Idols news.
