TV and radio presenter Jeremy Mansfield dead at 59 after losing battle with liver cancer.

The South African radio and TV presenter Jeremy Mansfield died early on Monday morning after he had lost his battle with liver cancer. He was 59.

In a statement his former colleague Samantha Cowen confirmed his death, saying that he had died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends.

Jeremy Mansfield is survived by his wife Jacqui and daughter, Gabriella. His mother died on 15 August which was his 59th birthday.

In January Jeremy Mansfield announced that he was diagnosed with liver cancer and in August revealed that his diagnosis of stage four liver cancer was terminal. 

"This morning a light went out in the world. Jeremy Mansfield passed away just before dawn. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends and boundless love," Samantha Cowen said.

"Jeremy lived large, he didn't know how to do small. He loved hard, laughed loud and managed to combine mischief and mayhem with heart and soul. The city was brighter and lighter with him on the airwaves, he changed lives every day."

"When he wasn't raising millions for charity, he was raising fresh hell! Under a naughty exterior Jeremy had a huge soft heart. A lot of people got to see and hear that over the radio but he saved his vulnerability for a select few."

"He was determined that the world be a better and shinier and funnier place and he drove the road to that destination at 1000 miles an hour with no rearview mirror, all of the rest of us clinging on for dear life!

"We will miss him horribly. The family is devastated and is asking for privacy during this time. Right to the end we were reading him your messages and he was happy to hear them all, every single one. He knew he was loved and it mattered. He mattered. There will be a new star in the sky tonight. As he would have said, Good night Bunnies."

Mansfield is known for his years of work as a radio and TV presenter on SuperSport, Front Row, the host of A Word or 2 on SABC2, CNBC (DStv 410), voice-over and MC work, and is the author of humour and cookbooks. He was a presenter on 94.7's The Rude Awakening for 13 years between 1997 and 2010 and a few years ago started his own Mansfield2day YouTube channel.

The South African radio and TV personality Jeremy Mansfield who revealed in January that he's battling cancer again has announced that it's terminal and that he's now looking to have "as much fun in the time I have left".

Jeremy Mansfield who will celebrate his 59th birthday next week, in a new Facebook entry announced that his primary liver cancer has advanced to Stage 4 and that he now has terminal cancer and will be undergoing palliative care.

"Have had it confirmed by the specialist surgeon that is leading everyone in the team looking after me that my cancer is confirmed stage 4, terminal and is now only subject to palliative care."

"This dream team (as I now refer to them) will now guide me through how to have as much fun in the the time I have left and fullfill as many dreams, big and small, I have in my bucketlist. A new journey for Kari and the rest of our families starts today," Jeremy Mansfield wrote.

He placed a photo of Hospice Wits with the Facebook entry announcing his terminal diagnosis.

The South African TV presenter and radio legend Jeremy Mansfield is battling cancer again - this time a type of liver cancer.

The 58-year old known for his years on radio and as a presenter on SuperSport, Front Row, the host of A Word or 2 on SABC2, voice-over and MC work and who is the author of humour and cookbooks, revealed his cancer diagnosis on his Facebook page, saying that he has cancer again.

Jeremy Mansfield had leukaemia before.

"Haven't posted for ages, reason being I’ve been in hospital battered by tests as I was not feeling 100%. Turns out I have a form of liver cancer," Jeremy Mansfield wrote.

"Docs not sure which type so I’m back in next week for more biopsies to find the right cell. That way the oncologists can design the right treatment. Been here before."

The local business channel CNBC Africa (DStv 410) is adding a new show to its primetime schedule from this Thursday night at 21:00 when Jeremy Mansfield joins the satellite channel for a new show entitled Mansfield's Money Sense.

Mansfield's Money Sense will look at financial markets, the economy and investment from an ordinary perspective. ''There are loads of issues out there which viewers with money to invest would want to look at from a common sense point of view,'' says Mansfield's Money Sense host Jeremy Mansfield. ''They are interested in personal finance and investment options and they want information packaged and presented in easy-to-understand terms. I will speak to the experts in ordinary English and won't allow them to lapse into their market jargon.''

''With Jeremy Mansfield joining our line-up, a new group of potential viewers will be drawn to the business channel,'' says Jill de Villiers, CNBC Africa's features editor. ''They'll tune in to see the world of money and investment from a perspective that is relevant to the ordinary person interested in making money.''

Mansfield's Money Sense will discuss ''The world economy in perspective'' on Thursday's first episode. Other upcoming episodes will include topics such as ''The 3 pillars of wealth'', ''Dissecting the Rand'' and ''From Sportsman to Investor''. Mansfield's Money Sense will repeat on Saturdays at 09:00, 16:00 and 22:00 and Sundays at 12:00 and 20:00.
