Chris Hayes replacing Ed Schultz on weekdays on MSNBC; The Ed Show moving to weekends.

Chris Hayes is replacing Ed Schultz and The Ed Show on MSNBC (TopTV 410) with The Ed Show moving to weekends, the American 24-hour news channel has announced.

Since September 2011 Chris Hayes has been doing the weekend show Up with Chris Hayes on weekends on MSNBC.

Now he's moving to weekdays with South African viewers who will be able to see him immediately in the 05:00 (South African time) timeslot on MSNBC with a repeat at 09:00 on weekday mornings.

"Chris has done an amazing job creating a franchise on weekend mornings," says Phil Griffin, MSNBC president in a statement. "He's an extraordinary talent and has made a strong connection with our audience. This is an exciting time for MSNBC."

"I'm thrilled to be joining Rachel and Lawrence in primetime," says Chris Hayes. "I've absolutely loved hosting Up on the weekend and I'm looking forward to thinking through the news five nights a week."

MSNBC adding a new 2 hour Saturday show for Chris Hayes from 17 September focusing on politics.

Chris Hayes is getting his own live show on Saturdays on MSNBC (TopTV 410) the 24 hour news channel has announced.
 The 2 hour programme with a focus on politics will start on 17 September at 14:00 (South African time).
