BREAKING. The Discovery Channel cancels Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe after 9 years; 'it was as they say, a very good run'.

The Discovery Channel (DStv 121) has cancelled Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe.

The cancellation of the longrunning show by Discovery Channel which started in 2003, follows within days on the heels of the cancellation of American Chopper which was also on The Discovery Channel.

Mike Rowe announced the cancellation of Dirty Jobs in a blog post today, saying "Dirty Jobs is a very personal show and it's difficult for me to imagine a future that does not involve exploding toilets, venomous snakes, misadventures in animal husbandry and feces from every species."

"The last episode looked pretty much like the first. We didn't become something we weren't. We never shared the sewer with Paris Hilton, and we never invited you to "tune in next week for a very special Dirty Jobs."

"We stuck to the mission statement. We stayed small. We worked hard. And we had a hell of a good time. It was as they say, a very good run."

END OF THE RIDE. American Chopper on the Discovery Channel cancelled after 10 years of fightin' between papa Senior and son Junior.

American Chopper on the Discovery Channel (DStv 121) has been cancelled after 10 seasons.

The reality show about Paul Senior (called Senior) and son Paul (called Paulie or Junior) and their competitive working styles and business practices in Newburgh New York made for compelling television, but will conclude in America in mid-December.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news. "After 10 years and 233 episodes of incredible, riveting reality television, American Chopper will be ending its run," Discovery says.

"This series was one of the very first family-based reality programs on television. Special thanks to Pilgrim Studios for over a decade of great producing. The Teutuls have given us really innovative bike builds and real drama since 2002. We wish both Orange County Choppers and Paul Junior Designs the best."

"I have mixed emotions, said American Chopper executive producer Craig Piligian. "It's had a great run. We had a lot of ups and downs. There's been so much that's happened to this family over the last 10 years. We've seen them grow to a huge motorcycle shop. We've seen them fight bitterly. We've seen them sue each other. And recently we've seen them come together to open up a new business. I think the show has come full circle."
