Thuli Nhlapo, who was or is SABC1's scheduling manager, is back again as acting SABC1 channel head, replacing Ofentse Thinane for some reason.
It's unclear from exactly when Thulisile Nhlapo has been SABC1 acting channel head at South Africa's public broadcaster.
SABC1 remains the largest TV channel in South Africa by total audience and reach, and is also the public broadcaster's largest TV channel in terms of ratings.
Thuli Nhlapo was acting SABC1 channel head until Ofentse Thinane was appointed permanently in the position in mid-2023.
TVwithThinus asked the SABC for clarity and if Ofentse Thinane left as SABC1 channel head and since when Thuli Nhlapo is back as acting SABC1 channel head, and why.
Mmoni Ngubane, SABC spokesperson, said "We note the employee-related enquiries and while we value the role you play in TV media, we wish to remind you that the SABC does not discuss employee matters in the public domain".
On 12 October, SABC publicist Caroline Phalaktshela sent media a press release on behalf of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) and its new advertiser-funded programme, Just Travel SA on SABC1.
In the press release, TBCSA and the SABC said that Thulisile Nhlapo is now the acting SABC1 channel head, and also included a prepared quote attributed to her.
Since then, various people, executives and production companies said they were not aware, and surprised to learn through trade media that Thuli Nhlapo is again acting SABC1 channel head since there were no notification from the public broadcaster.
