Huawei has launched its Huawei nova 13 and Huawei MatePad 11.5 in South Africa, touting how the nova 13's "AI Best Expression" function can distort images and manipulate photos into something artificial and fake.
Huawei South Africa unveiled the Huawei nova 13 and Huawei MatePad 11.5 on 30 January in South Africa.
Insofar as inadequate PR goes, sadly Huawei SA's PR company AntiClockwise wasn't interested and couldn't bother to notify or communicate about its Sandton launch event in Johannesburg before the time.
I did get the press release it emailed out afterwards as a generic press release blast.
According to the PR agency's emailed press release, Huawei noted "It's time to experience mobility that dazzles! Huawei is shaking up the South African tech scene with the launch of the Huawei nova 13 and the MatePad 11.5".
The Huawei nova 13 is available in green and black and costs R13 000 and more, while the Huawei nova13i in white and blue has a recommended selling cost of R7000.
The nova 13 comes with a 60MP Ultra-Wide Front Camera with a 100-degree field of view.
Huawei is apparently excited about its further advances in creating Frankenphotos with "AI Best Expression" which takes photos and alters the originals by combining multiple photos into an artificial composite image that never existed.
According to Anticlockwise's press release, the "AI Best Expression" function of Huawei's nova 13 "takes group photography to the next level by intelligently analysing multiple shots captured in a camera burst".
How is this fakery accomplished?
"Using advanced algorithms, it identifies the best expressions for each individual in the frame, ensuring smiles are perfect, eyes are open and everyone looks their best. The result is a polished and natural final image that eliminates common issues such as awkward smiles or closed eyes, making it perfect for preserving memorable moments with family, friends or large groups."
The only problem is that the Huawei nova 13 "preserves" a so-called "memorable moment" that never actually existed in the way the artificially changed photo looks.
The mobile device apparently has a 100W Huawei "SuperCharge Turbo" feature for changing, with a claim that it provides a 50% charge in just 10 minutes. It comes with a 5000mAh battery as well as "intelligent AI Precision Temperature Control".
Apparently its "innovative PaperMatte Display" can minimise "glare and reduces eye strain".
The press release says "These devices are set to make a lasting impression with their combination of innovation, functionality and style. Stay connected, productive and creative with Huawei!" It sounds so cool.
The MatePad 11.5 also "enhances productivity with features such as Multi-Note, enabling users to open and switch between multiple notes seamlessly and Note Replay, which syncs audio with handwritten notes."
