Amazon Prime Video will make the global debut of its upcoming fantasy drama series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power a double-header, with the first two episodes which will be released on Friday morning 2 September, followed by an episode weekly.
With HBO's new Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, releasing on Monday 22 August and carried on M-Net (DStv 101) in South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV service, it means that both duelling fantasy drama series will no longer conclude in the same week of 21 October.
Where the George R.R. Martin prequel series set in Westeros will end its 10-episode, first season run on M-Net on 24 October, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power prequel series set in Middle Earth during its Second Age will now end its 8-episode, first season run on Amazon Prime Video on 14 October.
The first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will become available for South African Amazon Prime Video subscribers on Friday morning, 2 September at 03:00.
From the following week, 9 September, one episode will be released weekly, becoming available in South Africa on Friday mornings at 06:00.
"The episodes will launch at the same tie around the world, so that all fans can experience them simultaneously. The finale of the 8-episode first season will air on 14 October," Amazon Prime Video says.
