Veteran TV newser Lukhanyo Calata joins Newzroom Afrika as new political editor after exiting etv News.

The widely-respected journalist Lukhanyo Calata has joined Newzroom Afrika (DStv 405) as the South African TV news channel's latest political editor.

Lukhanyo Calata joins Newzroom Afrika in mid-July in Johannesburg, coming from eMedia Investment's downsized etv News division where several staffers were let go at the end of May in Cape Town as part of e.tv staff reductions and cost-cutting.

The veteran Lukhanyo Calata is the latest former and very experienced eNews staffer from e.tv and eNCA who have been snapped up by Newzroom Afrika after he and other staffers were told at the end of May that the jobs they had been doing for the past number of years at etv News were suddenly redundant.

Lukhanyo Calata had been working as programme editor for etv News' 20:00 TV news bulletin for the past three years which saw significant ratings growth the past few months in the timeslot.

He joined e.tv in October 2018 from SABC News where he was a political reporter for seven years.
