FROZEN. Customers angry over ongoing video freeze problem of Disney+ on MultiChoice's DStv decoders.

by Thinus Ferreira

Disney+ and DStv subscribers continue to complain about the video freezing up of the Disney+ video streaming service when watching it through MultiChoice's DStv decoders  - a problem that has been persisting for close to two months now and which subscribers say doesn't seem to be getting solved.

Since Disney+ launched in South Africa on 18 May, DStv subscribers trying to watch Disney+ through DStv Ultra decoders have complained almost daily that they would encounter Disney+ freezing up while using the app.

According to DStv subscribers the technical bug or problem only occurs when watching Disney+ through the DStv decoder, not through the Disney+ app directly on mobile devices.

"All DStv has to say on the matter is that they are aware of it and technicians are working on it. With Disney+ streaming for over a month, one would have expected this issue to be resolved," one DStv subscriber tells TVwithThinus. "These issues only seem to be when watching Disney+ via the DStv decoder, not when using the Disney+ app."

The only feedback DStv subscribers get when bringing the issue under MultiChoice's attention is a generic message stating: "We've escalated the issue and our team is working on finding out what the issue is and we will let you know once we have received feedback".

Neither MultiChoice spokesperson Itumeleng Thulare, nor MultiChoice's PR companies The Duma Collective or JR Communications responded with answers to questions in a media query made a week ago about the Disney+ issue on DStv decoders.

Disney South Africa didn't have an official response to a media query made last week about the issue, but according to insiders the company is aware of the issue and technical error and is still working trying to resolve the issue.
