Superman is bisexual with the iconic Man of Steel who will get involved in a relationship with a man in the upcoming latest issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El that will be released on 9 November.

"I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I'm very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea," says writer Tom Taylor in a DC Comics press statement.

"Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."

Jonathan Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane who is known as Jon and who was introduced in 2015, has officially taken over the mantle of Superman on Earth while Clark Kent is away from Earth, and he falls in love with a reporter just like his dad did.

After initially striking up a friendship with reporter Jay Nakamura in August, Jon and Jay become romantically involved in a same-sex relationship within the pages of the 5th issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El from writer Tom Taylor and artist John Timms and will be shown kissing.

Following a scene where Superman mentally and physically burns out from trying to save everyone that he can, Jay is there to care for the Man of Steel.

"I'm incredibly honoured to be working beside Tom on the Superman: Son of Kal-El series showing Jon Kent tackling his complex modern life, while also saving the world from its greatest threats, villains and menaces," says John Timms.

Jim Lee, DC chief creative officer and publisher, says "We couldn't be prouder to tell this important story from Tom Taylor and John Timms".

Superman coming out as bisexual follows the Dark Night's friend Robin also coming out as bisexual in Batman: Urban Legends. The character of Tim Drake as Robin, played by Jay Lycurgo, is also being added to the third season of the live-action superhero series Titans from HBO Max.

DC Comics reintroduced Batwoman in 2006 as a lesbian of Jewish descent.
