The dystopian South Korean drama series Squid Game has now passed Shonda Rhimes' period drama series Bridgerton as the most-watched show ever on Netflix the video streaming service announced on Tuesday, saying that its now been sampled by 111 million members since its premiere on 17 September.

Bridgerton was sampled by 82 million Netflix members during its first 28 days when it was released in December 2020. A paying Netflix viewer needs to watch 2 minutes of content for it to be counted towards a sampled view.

Two weeks ago, Netflix co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, at a conference in Los Angeles, revealed more viewership information about Netflix's most-sampled series and films.

At the conference he said that the prediction is that Squid Game as a non-English Korean survival drama series is on track to become the most popular Netflix show ever, and is currently ranking as the number one show globally on Netflix.

"We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity," Ted Sarandos said.
