The former Xitsonga SABC News TV and radio presenter Ernest 'Mamba' Nkanyane has died.

The Xitsonga SABC News TV and radio presenter Ernest "Mamba" Nkanyane has died. He was 75.

SABC News reported that Ernest Nkanyane, who was born and raised in Olifantshoek, Limpopo had died. His cause of death is not yet known.

Ernest Nkanyane joined the SABC in the mid-1970s as an announcer on the then Radio Tsonga. After several years he joined the SABC News TV show as a journalist.

Ernst Nkanyane became the first executive producer for the SABC News' Xitsonga TV news bulletin in 2003.

Ernest Nkanyane is credited for advancing the Xitsonga language in South Africa and mainstream media. He retired in 2005.
