After his failure to appear before them in a sitting citing illness, Nigeria's House of Representatives on Wednesday ordered the country's MultiChoice Nigeria boss, John Ugbe, to be tested for Covid-19.

John Ugbe failed to appear before Nigeria's national assembly currently debating the regulations around pay-TV in the West African country, and said in a note that he fell ill after having taken an airplane flight.

Gozie Onumonon, MultiChoice Nigeria's head of regulatory affairs, in a note to the committee said that John Ugbe can't appear on Wednesday.

"We regret to inform the committee that we would be unable to appear before it today due to a sudden illness of our CEO, after arriving in Abuja yesterday for this meeting. Because of the abundance of caution needed to be taken in line with the current pandemic, we believe it is necessary that the meeting be deferred until he has regained his health and is cleared by his medical doctor."

The committee passed a resolution that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) "should locate the CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, and make sure he is tested for Covid-19, since he alluded that he is having a cough and is not feeling well".
