Skeem Saam actor Charles Maja dead at 54.

The Skeem Saam actor Charles Maja has died. He was 54.

The actor was known for his role as Big Boy Mabitsela in Skeem Saam on SABC1. He joined the youth drama series in 2016 as the alcoholic and abusive father of Leshole Mabitsela, portrayed by Thabo Mkhabela.

Skeem Saam publicist Sumaya Mogola confirmed that the actor died after he suffered a stroke in Limpopo on Thursday morning. The Maja family is devastated.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Charles Maja who played the role of Big Boy Mabitsela. Charles passed away on Thursday 9 April 2020 after suffering a stroke," the show says in a statement.

"He was a loved and valued member of our crew and he will be sorely missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time."

On its social media account on Twitter Skeem Saam said "You may be gone for now but you live forever in our memories and in our hearts. Thank you so much for who you were, we love you and we wish you a peaceful sleep. RIP Charles "Big Boy" Maja. Our family will never be the same again!".

Besides Skeem Saam he was also a voice actor and did several roles in radio dramas on the Sepedi radio station Thobela FM.

The SABC in a statement on Thursday evening said that "the SABC would like to extend its heartfelt sympathy to Charles Maja’s family and friends following his passing".

"Charles Maja played the role of Big Boy where he showcased his talent and won many fans with his memorable performances on SABC1's popular programme, Skeem SaamHis contribution to the arts will never be forgotten."
