Strike Back, seen on M-Net City, cancelled after a final 8th season renewal.

The action series Strike Back, a co-production between HBO's Cinemax and Sky in the United Kingdom, and seen in South Africa and Africa on M-Net City (DStv 115) has been cancelled after a final 8th season renewal.

The show follows the escapades of Section 20, an elite, multinational, covert special ops team, as it spans the globe fighting a vast web of interconnected criminal and terrorist activity.

"It is with sincere gratitude for the service of all of the past and present members of Section 20 - both in front of and behind the camera - that we send the team on one last mission to save the world from annihilation," says Kary Antholis, the president of HBO miniseries and Cinemax programming, in a statement.

"I am delighted we're coming back for a final season," says Jack Lothian, showrunner.

"Strike Back is a show that's always raised the bar for small-screen action, and we're looking forward to doing that one last time. There are plenty of twists and turns ahead, but I can promise one thing - we're going out with a bang."

Strike Back started as a Sky production, with HBO's Cinemax channel that became involved from the second season when Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton became the lead actors.

Previous seasons of Strike Back, available on MultiChoice's Showmax subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, were filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, although the production never bothered with set visits, publicity or to get any exposure for the show.

From the 6th season Strike Back moved to an ensemble cast, with the current Strike Back cast that includes Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson, Alin Sumarwata, Jamie Bamber, Yasemin Kay Allen and Varada Sethu.

Strike Back, a Left Bank Pictures Production is executive produced by Andy Harries, Sharon Hughff, Jack Lothian and Richard Burrell with producer, Nuala O'Leary.
