SABC's Umhlobo Wenene presenter Mbulelo Maqhubu in Port Elizabeth court for allegedly slashing a woman's kite to sheds.

The SABC radio presenter Mbulelo Maqhubu appeared in Port Elizabeth’s Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he allegedly slashed a woman’s kite on the beach – with Bondi-Borné Hulley who is also in court after she allegedly slapped him.

The Eastern Cape’s The Herald newspaper reports that both appeared in court after an April Kings Beach altercation in Port Elizabeth that saw Bondi-Borné Hulley allegedly slap the Umhlobo Wenene radio presenter through his face and he allegedly slashing her R4 000 power kite to shreds.

Mbulelo Maqhubu is facing a charge of malicious damage to property while saleswoman Bondi-Borné Hulley is facing charges of assault and crimen injuria.

The go-fly-a-kite tale started when Bondi-Borné Hulley (40) allegedly flew her 3 metre wide power kite in Kings Beach when Mbulelo Maqhubu and his family allegedly came too close.

Bondi-Borné Hulley allegedly told them to move away because it’s unsafe and he allegedly took out a knife and ripped it to sheds when the kite came down a short while later and fell exactly where Maqhubu was sitting.

That’s when Bondi-Borné Hulley in turn slapped him.

Cue first the lifeguards on the kite-altercation scene, and then the police, and then both Mbulelo Maqhubu and Bondi-Borné Hulley laying complaints against each other.

The kite case will resume again on 29 August.
