The SABC's website has gone down on
Wednesday, with no advisory or explanation that it would be happening or why.
On Wednesday morning the South African public
broadcaster's online portal wasn't accessible – whether due to a problem or
maintenance, abruptly taking access to all of the SABC's programming
information, it's channels' TV schedules and other information offline.
Even the SABC News digital news portal which
carries print stories and video inserts went offline.
Only websites for updating TV licence details
and paying a SABC TV licence remained available.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago didn't
immediately respond on Wednesday morning to a media enquiry asking about the
sudden unavailability of the SABC’s digital web presence online.
The SABC website asked visitors simply to "try again later" and to use the SABC's social media accounts on Facebook and
Twitter if they want news updates.
